Record Number of Submissions and Update on the RTSS 2026 Review Process
RTSS 2026 received a record number of 351 submissions after removing duplicates and papers that did not comply with double-anonymous or formatting requirements. We are grateful for the strong interest in the conference, which reflects the continued vitality and growth of the real-time systems community.
Given the unusually large submission pool, and after discussion with the IEEE Technical Committee on Real-Time Systems, RTSS 2026 will use a staged review process to preserve the quality, fairness, and rigor expected by the RTSS community.
The review process will proceed as follows:
-
Stage 1: Initial review Each paper will receive two reviews. Papers that will receive only negative reviews in Stage 1 will not proceed further, and will receive an early-reject decision together with their two Stage 1 reviews.
-
Stage 2: Additional review Papers that receive at least one non-negative review in Stage 1 will receive two additional reviews, for a total of four reviews. Authors will be informed at the start of Stage 2 that their paper will receive additional reviews.
-
Stage 3: Rebuttal Papers that proceed to Stage 2 will have the opportunity to submit a rebuttal addressing all four reviews. After the rebuttal period, the Program Committee will meet to discuss submissions and make acceptance decisions collectively.
Authors will be informed of the outcome of Stage 1 on June 24, when they will be notified whether their paper will proceed to the rebuttal stage or receive an early-reject decision. Note that this is an exception to the standard review process, due to the need to ensure reviewing quality despite the large increase in submissions.
The Program Committee is now working carefully to select the strongest and most interesting program possible. We look forward to welcoming the community to Yokohama this December for an exciting RTSS 2026 program.

After the abstract deadline, we reviewed the submissions in HotCRP and withdrew those that contained only placeholder text rather than a substantive abstract. The abstract submission count now stands at 445. The paper submission deadline is tomorrow, Anywhere on Earth. We wish all authors who are putting the final touches on their papers the very best of luck. We look forward to working with a strong set of submissions and engaging our program committee in building the RTSS 2026 program.
April 10, 2026
Due to several requests, we have decided to split the submission deadline into two parts:
- an abstract submission deadline on Thursday, May 21, 2026 (anywhere on Earth), and
- a paper submission deadline on Tuesday, May 26, 2026 (anywhere on Earth).
You can only submit a paper if you have registered an abstract before the submission deadline.
For authors of ESWEEK 2026 submissions that are currently under review in the first round: you are allowed to tentatively submit an abstract, but then withdraw in case your paper advances to the second round in ESWEEK 2026.
